Title:
‘Watergate’
Location:
Watergate Estate, Crook, Co.
Durham, 2002
Materials:
Sandstone, Jarrah (hardwood)
Description:
Designed as an entrance feature into a large housing estate, this
pair of sculptures serves both as signage and seating. Top surfaces
of the two main blocks were sloped off diagonally and carved to
portray a watercourse spilling out and down the face before running
the length of the seats and down the support blocks at the other
end. An important decorative element was the tiling set into the
sides of the main blocks made by members of the local youth club in
a series of workshops.
