Title:
‘For the Nature Table’,
Aycliffe Way, 50th Anniversary
Sculpture Trail
Location:
Newton Aycliffe, Co.
Durham, 1998
Materials:
Elm
Description:
This
waymarker is designed around an imaginary scene from ‘A Far Off
Bell’ by Gladys O’Connor, a writer who lived nearby. As a child on
her way to school she has stopped to catch some tadpoles for the
classroom nature table. She
has crossed the stile, with its signpost, left her satchel on the
step, taken off her boots, and left her collecting jar, and her
footprints, in the soft mud by the stream’s edge.
