Title:
Willington
Town Green
Location :
Willington, Co Durham, 2004
Materials :
Granite, ceramic tiles
Description :
The entrance onto this newly re-landscaped green area in the centre
of the town was marked on the ground by concentric circles of
flagstones surrounded by a ring of granite blocks. In keeping with
this outer ring, granite was chosen as the main material for this
‘gateway’ feature – in the form of 60 cm square columns in reducing
height from 2m tall. These were given diagonally sloping top
surfaces, three to either side, and inset with frost proof ceramic
tiles made by local people in a series of clay workshops.
