Title:  Millennium Archway

Location:  Millennium Green, Ravenstone, Leicestershire, 2001

Materials:  Green Elterwater Slate, Stainless Steel

Description:  This archway was designed as a focal point on a newly laid out public park. The brief required height (min 3 metres), symbolism bold enough to catch the eye of passing traffic, and depiction of Ravenstone at the turn of the millennium.

The sides of the tapering slate uprights were carved with aspects of the village  (entitled learning, labour, leisure and life) shown in actual locations, while the steel silhouette above refers to the village’s name, showing a pair of ravens building their nest – a hopeful image for the Spring, and for the years to come.
